William St George Conway Hawkshaw had an illustrious military career spanning over two decades, beginning with his commissioning into the South Wales Borderers in 1941 during World War II. Serving in India, he held various key positions, including Adjutant of the 5/10 Baluch Regiment, Camp Commandant for the 19th Division HQ, and General Staff Officer roles with Southern Command.

During World War I, Hawkshaw rejoined the South Wales Borderers and the Royal Garrison Artillery, serving with distinction on the Western Front. His leadership and dedication saw him recognized with promotions and awards, including the British War and Victory Medals. His service extended to supporting the allied intervention in the Russian Civil War in 1919.
Charles Alfred William Hawkshaw
Charles Alfred William Hawkshaw began his distinguished military career in 1895 at the age of 16, enlisting in the 1st Battalion South Wales Borderers. Over the next three decades, he served in Gibraltar, India, South Africa, and Europe, steadily rising through the ranks. By 1904, he had achieved the rank of Sergeant Major, later receiving a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Norfolk Regiment in 1906.
